A joint official opening ceremony for Ardler and St.Fergus was held on 30th October 1968. An open night for parents to view the new school was held on 5th November.
The School Grows
By the end of June 1969, the school could not accommodate all the pupils in the area and plans were made to re-open Blackshade as the Ardler Annexe.
When the school re-opened on 20th August 1969 the roll was 625. There were 5 classes in the annexe. There were 32, 30 and 33 pupils in each P1. The two P2 classes had 40 pupils in each. There was an intake of two classes at Easter.
By April 1971, the two P3 classes were occupying huts in the grounds of the main building.
Blackshade school re-opened as a school in its own right in August 1971.
